Q. Just what is wainscot, anyway?
A. Wainscot is the decorative paneling that commonly adorns the lower part of walls and stairways in finer homes, upscale offices and other types of commercial buildings. Wainscot adds architectural interest and detail to otherwise bare walls, and, in modern times, is generally associated with "historical" type millwork.

Q. Where should I put wainscot paneling in my home?
A. Wainscot can be added to any wall in any room in a house or office, including the kitchen. Entry foyers, stairways, dining rooms and formal living rooms are primary areas for the addition of wainscot. Installing wainscot in finished basements is also becoming common.

Q. Are there limitations on where I can install your wainscot?
A. Danbury Creek wainscot is an interior wall covering and is not designed for exterior applications or installation in areas of high humidity such as bathrooms. Our wainscot paneling is intended for installation on vertical walls only, and cannot be installed on ceilings or other similar surfaces.

Q. What material is your wainscot made of?
A. Danbury Creek wainscot paneling is crafted from a new-generation medium density fiberboard (MDF). This "ultra-refined" MDF we use to make your paneling is an environmentally friendly engineered wood product manufactured from sustainable-harvest forests. It offers several distinct advantages for use in the woodshop including an inherent dimensional stability (resistance to warping and splitting). MDF has excellent machineability (allowing for crisp profiles) and accepts paint extremely well resulting in a high quality, blemish-free finish.

Q. How does Danbury Creek make the wainscot a "custom fit" for my specific room?
A. Our experienced design team will produce a custom panel width for each section of wainscot within your room so that, following installation, the assembled wainscot will exactly match the length of your wall. The differences in the width of the panels among wainscot sections are then minimized by changing the number of panels within a section, ultimately leading to a "balanced" appearance between the panels within the room. By designing your wainscot in such a way, i.e. the definition of "custom", your wainscot will never contain a half-panel or uneven areas of framing.

Q. What are the design options available for Danbury Creek wainscot?
A. Basically, you choose the wainscot design (height) and a few other key components of the paneling style from our selection (panel and framing profiles, cap moulding shape, etc.), give our design team a preference for the relative width of the panels (i.e. "narrow" or "wide"), and we'll take it from there! We currently offer three common wainscot heights, two distinct panel configurations, several panel and framing profiles, and two cap moulding styles. These selections add up to a virtually endless array of design possibilities! However, if you have a unique wainscot design not shown in our catalog, by all means, give us a call to discuss your ideas. We can certainly develop a distinctive paneling design that is sure to exceed your expectations.

Q. How difficult is your wainscot to install? Can I install it myself or will I need to hire a carpenter?
A. Danbury Creek wainscot is engineered to require a minimum amount of site work during installation. We've designed our wainscot system with the DIYer in mind and to be "user friendly" with regard to assembly and installation. That being said, installing your wainscot will require common carpenters' tools (saw, hammer and nails, etc.) and minor cutting of some of the wainscot components. A step-by-step guide illustrating common installation procedures will be provided with your order so that any carpenter or experienced DIYer should find our assembly procedures easy to understand and simple to follow.

Q. Does Danbury Creek provide installation services?
A. Danbury Creek, Incorporated, does not install wainscot. We can however, direct you to a listing of carpenters who have previously installed our paneling.

Q. How do I finish my wainscot once it's installed?
A. Danbury Creek wainscot is shipped primed (white) and ready for installation. Following the assembly of the wainscot and preparation for finish painting (filling of nail holes, etc.), any quality latex or oil-based paint may be applied. We do not currently offer stainable paneling.

Q. How will my wainscot be shipped?
A. We will ship your paneling unassembled, in durable cardboard boxes to protect the milled edges and primer coat from damage while in transit. All components that are specific to a section of wainscot will be clearly labeled (some components are common to all sections and will be labeled in a group). Detailed installation instructions are also included.

Q. What if I need help measuring or ordering?
A. Our Wainscot Ordering Guide is very detailed and complete – but just call or e-mail us if you need additional assistance! We always invite questions and comments with regard to the ordering of your wainscot and want to ensure that your paneling is ordered correctly.

Q. Does your wainscot come with a warranty?
A. All raised panel wainscot crafted by Danbury Creek is warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for three years from the date of delivery. The following are NOT considered defects in materials or workmanship and will NOT be covered under this warranty: Any defect resulting from mishandling, improper storage, installation or finishing of the wainscot.

Q. What if my measurements were incorrect and the wainscoting doesn't fit - can I return it?
A. Unfortunately, your wainscot paneling is a custom product, crafted to order for each section of your room. Because of this, we regrettably cannot accept returns, nor can we issue refunds for mis-ordered sections. Generally, changes in the design and length of your wainscot can be accommodated provided your order has not yet gone into production. Once we have received and processed your order, there will be a net charge assessed, at the discretion of Danbury Creek, for each change in your order. Carefully following the instructions in our ordering guide will ensure an error-free order.
